Many popular (and successful!) app monetization strategies include using ads as a revenue source. I’ve personally used ads to help monetize many of my apps very successfully, but even so, I share a complaint many other developers have about ads: eCPMs from ad networks usually suck (if you’re not sure what an eCPM is, check out my intro post on ads).
Even with ad optimization and geotargeting – a necessity to make real money off of ads – eCPMs from ad networks alone aren’t spectacular. So how can you increase your ad eCPM overall? One great way is by adding house ads to the mix alongside your ad network partners. You’ll definitely see a noticeable jump in eCPM almost immediately. So what exactly are house ads and how can they increase your eCPM? Read on to find out!

Without question, the biggest mistake developers make when monetizing their apps with ads is relying on only one ad network or exchange for all of their ads. Relying on only one ad source for all of your in-app ads can mean that you’re not even showing an ad at all 100% of the time. And in the rare case that you are showing an ad all the time, you’re probably not showing the ad that would make you the most money… often you’ll show the same few ads over and over again. Want to stop leaving money on the table? Read on to find out more about why it’s crucial to have multiple ad sources in your apps. Read the rest of this entry →

Now that iAds are out in the wild, we’re seeing great eCPMs with lower fill rates than other providers. With reports of currently high eCPM’s, many developers (including myself), are even more excited about iAd now than when Apple’s ad network was first announced. Since over time, eCPM’s will come down (but most likely stay above other ad providers) and fill rates will increase, we believe that developers should definitely integrate with iAd, but also partner with as many other ad networks as possible to increase your fill rate and maximize your ad revenue.
Burstly’s new iOS 4.0 SDK gives you the ability to mediate between iAd and other ad network partners on the fly. In addition to our turnkey mediation solution, Burstly gives you access to the transparency and control ad networks have in their arsenal. Our goal is to help you maximize your revenue opportunity, just as ad networks are doing for themselves.
Get our iOS 4.0 SDK here and contact us at support@burstly.com if you have any questions or would like to see a specific ad network partner added to our SDK.
